Tomatoes require a lot of water, especially during summer. It's crucial to provide them with enough water, and you can't achieve this with most of the conventional watering methods. Drip irrigation systems don't help much in this case.
For this reason, it's important to find an alternate way to deep water your tomatoes and give them enough water they need for the summer.
A Homemade System
The most effective way to deep water your tomatoes is surprisingly cost-effective. You should use perforated tubes to deliver the water. Simply bury the tube into the ground to help watering your tomatoes.
You will need two or three 10ft long tubes. You should cut them into smaller pieces (about 16" long). This length is ideal for tomato beds that are about 12" deep. If your beds are deeper you should adjust the length to insert the tubes to the bottom of the bed but to still have a few inches above the ground. Each bed requires about 6 of these tubes. Tubes are cheap so you won't spend a lot of money on them. Another advantage is that they are small enough so they can fit into any garden.
Dig the holes for the tubes and make sure to work carefully not to damage your tomatoes. Once you have reached the bottom of the bed, place the tube and pull the soil back in. Make sure to press firmly around the tubing.
Watering With Perforated Tubes
Once your homemade deep watering system is in place, you can use if for your tomatoes. All you need to do is to pour the water in the each tube. The holes will transfer the water deep into the soil.
To make your tomatoes thrive, you may also pour some manure tea into the tubes. This will make your tomatoes grow strong and produce a rich crop.
